Ski Holiday Meiringen-Hasliberg, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

Meiringen-Hasliberg

This winter we have visited the Meiringen-Haslital ski resort again and booked accommodation in Brienz as last year. On the first day we took the cable car from Mägisalp to Alpentower where we could observe the uncommon phenomena called “sea of clouds” formed by the uniform layer of clouds below. It is often compared to an open sea with the mountain peaks rising above the clouds looking like small island on the horizon. Standing there, looking at the clouds below and the surrounding mountains, it was really hard to believe that it is only about 2245m above the sea level and there are mountains on our planet which are almost 4 times higher than this one…

The weather condition during the rest of our holiday were much different, it was foggy and it was snowing almost all the time so I am glad we made the Alpen Tower experience on the first day.

Alpen Tower is located on mountain peak Planplatten (2,245 m) which is also a great summer destination and a popular paragliding starting point.

We stayed mostly at Bidmi station. This is where the Snow Sport School headquarter is located and all the main activities starts from here. The Children’s Ski Area Bidmi Skihäsliland is also here. There is restaurant, family restaurant, couple of bars and ski rental of course. All you need in one spot…

The only thing which I found pretty annoying is that all the small children ski-lifts are part of Skihäsliland and are “exclusively for ski school use from Monday to Friday from 10am to 1.30pm” (quotation Meiringen-Hasliberg ski resort webpage). So when you arrive at Bidmi you think “Oh, great children ski area!” but actually you cannot use it from 10am to 1.30pm unless the kids will enroll to ski-school. Bring out your wallet! Welcome to Switzerland 🙂

Other that skiing we also did a lot of sledding with kids on the Mägisalp-Bidmi trail. Lots of fun! Sledges can be rent either at Bidmi or Mägisalp. Information about sledding in Haslital can be found on Meiringen-Hasliberg ski resort webpage.

My discovery of the season and my favourite food on the slopes was without a doubt the Gerstensuppe (barley soup). Served with bread and lots of Speck/sausage inside warm you up and gives enough energy without making your stomach too heavy…

We stayed in Brienz which is located only about 15km from Meiringen. It takes only about 15 minutes to get to the cable car station Alpbach in Meiringen.

The romantic penthouse Heidi from casagrandeholiday was beautiful and spacious with great view over the Brienz lake. There was everything you need in the apartment including dishwasher, washing machine and 2 falt TV’s. The bakery and other shops are located within less than 3min walking distance.

A walk along the lake early in the morning would load you up with positive energy for the whole day !
